The party was fun and much easier than any other parties we’ve thrown. It was practical, less stressful and more fun for the kids. I can’t believe it took us 4 years to figure out how to do it this way =)
Here is the Birthday Boy, complete with his red shirt, red hat, blue overalls, and his Super Mario nose and moustache.
Here’s his Super Mario cake. Just a premade white cake from our local grocery. We topped it with some birthday candles and Super Mario characters we ordered from Ebay.
Later on, DS had fun decorating his cake with Skittles!
For the decorations, I wanted to make it very minimal to have the least waste as possible. I’m so done with pretty and over the top decor. It takes so much time to make and you may get the satisfaction of the oohs and aahs by the adults, but they don’t help clean up afterwards. At the end of it all, you end up tossing your hard work in the trash.
But I did make DS a Birthday Banner with Ribbon and Scrapbook Paper Scraps! The ribbons are recyclable and the letters can be reused as tags and or for scrapbooking or cardmaking.
DH made cupcake stands with cardboard covered with the Super Mario Brick design.
We also had a poster of Mario that doubled as a Pin the Nose on Mario Game.
The children had fun playing the Pin the Nose Game. It was pretty funny!
Another game we had was a Super Mario Matching Game.
We also played Yoshi’s Egg Toss.
Then, we had an Obstacle Course!
We got a pinata from a local Party store and the lady even customized the colors to our preference.
The menu was the very easy and practical:
6 boxes of pizza (delivered by Domino’s)
2 bags of chips (Vons)
2 trays of fresh cookies (Vons)
2 trays of cupcakes (Vons)
1 birthday cake (Vons)
3/10 packs of Capri Sun (Vons)
1 bag grapes (Vons)
1 Watermelon (King SuperMarket)
1 tray of Spaghetti and
1 tray of Adobo– for the adults (catered by my mother in law)
I’ve finally admitted that goody bags are a waste of time and money. They are obviously cute and fun to make. But they take too much time to put together. And at the end of the day, you’ll come to realize that not all the kids will appreciate the contents of your goody bag.
Instead of making goody bags, DH and I agreed to give them consumables. It’s great that we found these Nintendo Gummies. They are perfect for the theme and they’re packaged nicely perfect for the favors.
It was such a nice day! Simple decor, plenty of games, kid friendly food and help from wonderful people made this day easy. The kids had fun, especially the Birthday Boy! I would do it again in a heartbeat. He’s so worth it!
